 The Philippines, commonly known as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas” is an archipelago
that consists of 7,100 islands. It is a country that owes its soul to its unique
and multiple heritage. A perfect blending of the east and west together with the
combination of its various influences makes the Filipinos unique in many ways…hospitable,
cheerful, fun-loving, festive and God fearing.
By history, Les Clefs d’Or Philipines who was then under the auspices of Les Clefs
d’Or Singapore, became the 29th member country of the UICH “Les Clefs d’Or” upon
its conferment during the 40th International Congress in December of 1993 in Singapore.
Its founding chairman, the late Andy Pongco – 1st Vice President International/
Chef Concierge-Intercontinental Manila, is also known to be the “Godfather of the
Philippine Concierges”. Proudly, the Philippines played host to the 52nd UICH “Les
Clefs d’Or” International Congress 21-26 January 2005, so far the 3rd Asian country
to have hosted such a momentous event.
