Les Clefs d'Or Philippines
Keeping the Vision Ablaze
The germ of the idea started more than a decade ago when the late Manny Suarez,
Chef Concierge of the Manila Hotel, became the first Filipino to attend the
International Congress of what was the called the “Union Internationale des
Portiers des Grands Hotel, Les Clefs d’Or” in Costa del Sol, Spain. In between
sessions and socials, Suarez quietly mumbled to himself, “One of these years,
I’m going to bring this congress to Manila.”

Welcome!
The Philippines, commonly known as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas” is an
archipelago that consists of 7,100 islands. It is a country that owes its soul
to its unique and multiple heritage. A perfect blending of the east and west
together with the combination of its various influences makes the Filipinos
unique in many ways…hospitable, cheerful, fun-loving, festive and God fearing.
By history, Les Clefs d’Or Philipines who was then under the auspices of Les
Clefs d’Or Singapore, became the 29th member country of the UICH “Les Clefs
d’Or” upon its conferment during the 40th International Congress in December of
1993 in Singapore. Its founding chairman, the late Andy Pongco – 1st Vice
President International/ Chef Concierge-Intercontinental Manila, is also known
to be the “Godfather of the Philippine Concierges”. Proudly, the Philippines
played host to the 52nd UICH “Les Clefs d’Or” International Congress 21-26
January 2005, so far the 3rd Asian country to have hosted such a momentous
event.
Long Live Les Clefs d’Or!!! MABUHAY and GODSPEED!!!

A Brief History of Les Clefs d’Or
They came. They sat. They bonded and organized. That, in the most simplistic
sense, is how the Union International e des Concierges d’Hotels, Les Clefs d’Or
came into being. But that is really getting ahead of the story. It’s actually a
long and storied struggle, the roots of which started more than 70 years ago.
In 1929, ten concierges from Paris decided to get together thinking that they
could do a better job of handling guest requests if they grouped themselves
together. This meant sharing of contacts, information and sources. Thus the
Union Professionelle des Portiers des Grands Hotels was born.
